The movie, Antwone Fisher, is an America film of drama genre, which marked the directorial debut of the versatile Hollywood actor Denzel Washington. Washington also played the role of Jerome Davenport, the psychiatrist in the movie.
The film is based on a true story of the real Antwone Fisher who also happens to be the screenwriter of the movie. Antwone’s character in the movie is played by Derek Luke. Derek himself had a personal acquaintance with Fisher even before the making of the film. Fisher has also published his autobiography by the name of ‘Finding Fish’ which primarily is the source of the storyline.
The movie revolves around Antwone Fisher, a young navy sailor. Antwone Fisher frequently loses his composure and is finally sent to a psychiatrist. After initial reluctance and hesitation, Antwone Fisher eventually cracks up and discloses his tragic childhood to Jerome Davenport (Denzel Washington). With his psychiatrist’s aid Antwone Fisher begins a quest to discover the family he never knew.
With the launch of the first-ever ‘Black History Month on demand’, this February, by the cable networks of the country, the movie along with many other films would be offered in dedication to black films, filmmakers and stars of past and the present for their contribution to the American cinema. The programming would offer up to 100 hours of African-American movies, biographies, documentaries, television series and news.
The participating operators in the campaign include Comcast, Cablevision Systems, Cox Communications, Time Warner, Mediacom Communications and Insight Communications while the networks comprise of A&E Network, CNN, HBO, BET, HGTV, MTV, Nickelodeon, Showtime, National Geographic Channel, Sundance Channel, VH1 Food Network and many more.
