Yesterday’s trial balloon about Rep. Pete Stark, D-Calif., becoming the next Ways and Means Chairman has been popped. Rep. Sander Levin, D-Mich., who (like most people in America) has thrown fewer obscene tirades on video and audio tape than Stark, will replace Rep. Charlie Rangel, D-N.Y., as the next Ways and Means Chairman.
Stark’s ailment, cited in this Washington Post account, was apparently not a consideration yesterday when the trial balloon was floated by an unnamed House leadership aide. but Democrats, beset by scandals over three of their New Yorkers in a single day, might have needed a break.
